History
Poleng Sp. z o.o. came into existence in 2003 and its first task was to design a commercial version of the machine translation system, so far developed at the Adam Mickiewicz University. Since 2004 we have published several versions of the
Translatica system, currently operating between Polish, English, German and Russian, in both directions. Apart from Translatica, Poland's top machine translation program, we have developed a number of other commercial projects related to broadly-conceived communication. To name just a few, we have produced the
Globalizer, a practical manifestation of computational linguistics, or TranlAide, a CAT Computer-Aided Translation tool. Also, we have run some major
dictionary projects, such as the Great Polish to German and German to Polish Dictionaries, produced in cooperation with the
Polish Scientific Publishers PWN. Since 2005 our offer has included translation services. Since 2009 the company has been successfully creating dedicated systems for enterprises.
Mission
Poleng is a team of experienced programmers and linguists. We share an inquisitive character, thirst for new solutions and commitment to what Poleng specializes in: machine translation, natural language processing, programming, lexicographic and translation services. Our employees are first-class specialists in one's industry, lexicographers and registered translators and scientists, cooperating usually with UAM, involved in various research-developmental projects.
In the 21st century innovation is no longer a luxury or a gimmick, but a necessity. We happen to live in interesting and dynamic times that have brought new oportunities, but more importantly, new challenges: that of mobility, flexibility, and versatility. What has also changed is the notion of the frontier. The physical ones no longer matter - what limits us today is the frontier of human capability. And this frontier is ever-expanding. Thanks to the Internet the world and any kind of information is at our fingertips. Still, however, language barriers, effectively hampering the communication, the work and the access to abounding sources stay networks.
But barriers are there to be brought down. This is what we do. Foreign languages and new technologies are our passion. We are commited to using our resources and innovative tools to make people's lives in the multilingual Global Village easier. Technological development is rapid and we keep pace with it. Our software translates written texts in a number of languages, but in the future it will be able to interpret speech - we are working on a speech recognition tool. It will be our contribution to the improvement of human-machine interaction.
We are more than happy that our products have been appreciated and awarded the following:
Award of the Chairman of the Polish Chamber of Commerce - Expo 2005 Computer
Gold Medal of the Poznań International Fair - 2007
Poznań's Academic Business Leader - 2010
